  • Busy!

I’m incredibly busy lately doing a variety of things that don’t pay me, though I started work today at Victoria’s Secret. I swore up and down I wouldn’t end up back in retail, but here I am. It’s a paycheck, though, and my co-workers are so much fun! I can tell I’m really going to like it…even if it is retail, and even if it only pays $7.50 an hour.

I am still writing for chickspeak.com and just got the good news that I get to interview SARK, who is one of my favorite authors, in the upcoming months. I’m super pumped about it.

I’ll also be writing for newraleigh.com, a blog I follow religiously. It is a daily blog that updates with all sorts of nightlife goings on. It is, like all great things in writing, unpaid. However, I think it will be a really great resume booster and great to make some connections. Plus, it will give me an excuse to go to openings and concerts. “No, really. I have to go to the opening of this hip new place. It’s for work!”

My good friend Nikki is starting a Web site for young girls of which I’ll be editing the “Taste” section. Apparently liking to eat is a qualification enough!

The best news I got this week, though, was landing an interiew with Lulu.com, a self-publishing company based here in Raleigh. The job would be for a customer service and sales representative. The application said “Those afraid of geting hit with a nerf dart need not apply”!! I think this job was designed for me and I’ve got my fingers crossed and my hopes up.

It’s a little overwhelming, but I’m happy to keep busy. I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if I didn’t have a thousand things to do all at once.

  • Graduated!

I graduated! My roommate Scott, his girlfriend and my best friend Natasha(contrary to popular belief, we are not actually related) and me! We’re a good looking bunch, what can I say?

I’ve moved home and am all settled in. I just have my books to unpack, which will probably take days. I’m still unemployed, so I’m bored to tears. I’m so used to having a thousand things to do all at once, I don’t know how to have NOTHING to do. I am applying for a job at the Carrborro Arts Center, which would be very amazing.

  • I am very overwhelmed!

    • I have a finance exam tomorrow at 9 a.m., and I cannot help but feel as if math exams on Saturday morning should be illegal. Hopefully it won’t be too hard or take too long.
    • I have to arrange my final two hours of transfer credit, which I will be taking online back home. It’s very stressful and a lot of paperwork.
    • I have two geology exams next week, and rocks just aren’t that interesting to me. Neither are earthquakes, ground water resources or foliations in the crust.
    • I need to eat something, because passing out is no fun!
    • I need a big girl job!
    • I am very, very broke with bills to pay
    • My belongings keep disapearing into a big black hole.

  • My last newspaper staff picnic with my darling, silly, lovely newsies. They have been my heart, soul and life for the last four years. The weather was atrocious, so not a lot of people came, but we had a great time!
I will miss them all dearly.

  • My parents can’t agree on how they met, and the end result looks like something out of “When Harry Met Sally.” It’s adorable!

  • Call it gut instinct, but I get this feeling the Internet might be going places.

My good friend and current editor at The Appalachian paper where I work was recently promoted to Editor-at-Large of a women’s Web site and asked me to be a writer for her. I’ll be writing travel and women’s saftey stories. Unfortunately, I will not be getting paid. BUT, it’s a good way to get some clips out there. I’m doing my best to get my presence known on the Internet.

I’m still waiting to hear back from a local music magazine, which is what I want to be doing.

I hate that really cool writing jobs don’t pay! Oh well!

  • Filming

I have spent the last two days filming my parents in attempt to make a documentary about my dad’s journey to a liver transplant and my parent’s fantastic love story. I have two hours of great footage right now.

I have to put it all together for my final project in the last class of my English degree. It’s worth 40% of my final grade, so it needs to be good. But, it can only be ten minutes long! The hardest part is picking out which clips I want to use, because it’s all so good!

Tomorrow I’m cloistering myself away with the film, transcribing my interviews and scanning in pictures and printing off family trees. It’s all getting turned in in a big notebook full of great information about my wonderful family. This project needs to be great, and it will be.

I’m leaving to go back to school Wednesday morning, and it all needs to be done before then. Eep!
